33 years ago, the world witnessed a momentous event: the overthrow of Nicolae and Elena Ceaușescu. The final days of their dictatorial power over the Romanians and their execution by firing squad in front of TV cameras not only changed the optics of the revolution itself but also had the nature of a media show, which that execution undoubtedly had turned into. In Julia Holewińska’s text The Final Days of Elena and Nicolae Ceaușescu, the creators explore the twilight of the Romanian dictatorship. The drama vividly portrays the downfall of these once-mighty rulers, tracing their journey from god-like figures to imprisoned individuals who ultimately meet their demise.
