“I” by Ivan Vyrypaev
Translated by: Andrzej Bubień
Director: Victor Ryżakow (Russia)
Set: Dmitry Razumov

At the request of Toruń theater, the screenplay was created, which is described as a theater fantasy on the basis of texts by Ivan Vyrypaev. The performance involves five actors. They are like five voices, five elements forming one man. They deny everything what is ordinary, everyday, generally accepted because it is the only opportunity to explore the world and determine the place in it for oneself. Openly and frankly, naively and with exasperation they ask themselves questions about God, time, death and beauty.

Starring: Matylda Podfilipska, Jarosław Felczykowski, Filip Frątczak, Radosław Garncarek, Tomasz Mycan.

Duration: 1 hour 20 minutes. (without a break)

From the review:

What is this game about? For sure about the theater, traditions, conventions. At the beginning, Jarosław Felczykowski says something about understanding Chekhov and at the end from a box left somewhere in the middle of the play on the chair bounces a lid and birthday candles are lit. From Chekhov’s climates there is also the initial conformation of actors’ voices in a beautifully sounding dismal note of the chord, while some discourses are as taken from Bulgakov. Nothing here is clear, nothing deadly serious, and even if the text sounds serious, actors neutralize too intrusive importance with funny or ironic action. And so, with a joke but seriously, God, love, fun, mystery of life are talked about here in one breath. (Andrzej Churski, “Nowości”, 20.05.2005)
