“Forefathers’ Eve” by Adam Mickiewicz is one of the most outstanding Polish dramatic texts. Great romantic work, additionally burdened with the history of its great performances. It is difficult to question this thesis. The turbulent history of our country and the years of literary and theatrical traditions stand behind it. But how to perform them today? After 1989, when Poland became a fully free and sovereign state, an integral part of united Europe. When no tsar or senator Novosiltsev persecute us. There are no kibitka wagons rushing to Siberia, and true patriots do not sit in prison, but walk the streets smiling. Let’s try to look at this text again. Without the intensive reproduction of the plot, without approach in which we pay tribute to the work of the poet. Let’s try to describe our contemporary reality with the text of “Forefathers’ Eve”. We will see what portrait of Poles will emerge from its pages today, A.D. 2013.
