Adomas Juška studied under Eimuntas Nekrošius. He has staged Fictions, based on stories by Jorge Luis Borges, at the State Theatre for Young Audiences in Vilnius. In that performance, the director recreates the great writer’s journey through life from the first moments of creative inspiration to reflections on his old age and on the road he had travelled. In the small space of the stage, as if on a blank page, reality intertwines with dreams, and from that fiction is born. It is a story of human life and the search for magical realism in this life. “I want this performance and its surrealism to take the viewer somewhere above and beyond reality, beyond the usual context,” says the director.
In the leading part of the writer appears Arūnas Sakalauskas, one of the most prominent Lithuanian actors, whom Toruń festival audiences have seen in performances by Eimuntas Nekrošius, Rimas Tuminas and Oskaras Koršunovas.
