“Licheń story” presents the life of the characters in a different way related to the title sanctuary. The author of the play asks about the faith, but not so much about its general condition in the modern world, but about the role that faith plays in individual human fate, ordinary, but also twisted. In this text, there is not a simple, declarative religiosity, as well as easy ridiculing of the so-called popular piety. In the center of the story, Jakubowski sets a symbolic “birth and death of God” in every man’s life. We receive a kind of non-obvious morality play, from which ambiguous, collective portrait of the man of the first half of twenty-first century emerges from a mosaic of history. The performance directed by Tomasz Hynek is a pre-premiere presentation of the play “Licheń story” by Jarosław Jakubowski.
